MyLifeLine alternative

Looking for a MyLifeLine alternative?

Reviewed

Whether you need a MyLifeLine alternative comes down to who reads your updates. If it's a few close family, one KeptWell circle can hold the updates and the medical records together, and its AI reads every report. If it's everyone who offered a ride to chemo, post the updates for them and keep the records in a KeptWell circle with just the family.

Before you set anything up

Do you need two sites?

Not if only close family is reading. But who's reading can change over the next few months.

  1. A few people reading: one circle does both

If the people following along are your partner, your kids and a sister, one KeptWell circle is enough. Your journal entry about Tuesday's scan sits right next to the scan report, which the AI has already read and explained. Anyone in the family can comment on a shared entry or mark their own entry private.

  2. Everyone who offered help: give them the updates, not the reports

On MyLifeLine, the guests you approve can comment on your updates and volunteer on the Helping Calendar. Most of them want to know how you're doing and what they can bring. Post that there: how the first round of chemo went, that Thursday rides are covered. The staging scan, the lab results and the medication changes go in a KeptWell circle with just the family.

  3. Start with the biopsy report and the staging scan

If you have the biopsy report or a staging scan before the first oncology visit, add those to the circle first. They're written for doctors, and they're hard to read the week you're diagnosed. KeptWell writes back what each one is and what it found, in plain English. It can also draft questions from them and add them after yours, so you walk in with the hard words already explained.

  4. When the guest list changes, the records stay put

Who reads your updates won't stay the same. The list grows when word gets around, or it goes quiet once treatment ends. In a KeptWell circle, the scans, labs and visit notes stay with the people who need them, whatever happens to the update site. If you close a MyLifeLine site later, save its Keepsake PDF first: once a site is deactivated, you and your guests lose access.

A note from KeptWell

Keep every record in one place your whole family can read

KeptWell takes the scans, lab results, visit notes, and appointment recordings a family collects and turns them into one organized, searchable record. Upload a document and it's read, summarized in plain English, and filed where everyone in the care circle can find it. Ask a question and get an answer grounded in the actual records.

It's free to start, with no credit card. We never sell your data or show you ads.

Common questions

What is MyLifeLine?
MyLifeLine is an online space from the Cancer Support Community, a nonprofit. Marcia Donziger, an ovarian cancer survivor, founded it in 2007, and it merged with the Cancer Support Community in 2018. It's built for people affected by cancer. Members set up a private Friends & Family site for updates and photos, with a Helping Calendar for meals and rides, and can join moderated discussion forums.
Is MyLifeLine free?
Yes. MyLifeLine says it is "always offered at no cost for anyone impacted by cancer." The Donate button on its site goes to the Cancer Support Community, not to a member. KeptWell is free today as well, with every feature and no limit on members. It never shows ads and never sells family data.
Does KeptWell have support groups or a helpline?
No. KeptWell has no forums, support groups or helpline. It's for the records and the family who share them. MyLifeLine's discussion forums are moderated by licensed mental health professionals, and the Cancer Support Community runs a free helpline.
How hard is it to switch from MyLifeLine to KeptWell?
There's no importer. To keep what you've posted, use MyLifeLine's Keepsake feature to save your updates, guest messages and photos as a PDF, then upload that PDF to the circle as a document. Next comes the medical side: upload the recent reports, or connect Apple Health, or MyChart where your health system has turned that on. Then invite the family.
Is KeptWell HIPAA-compliant?
No. KeptWell does not currently offer a Business Associate Agreement or claim HIPAA compliance. It's built for families keeping their own records. KeptWell never sells family data, shows no ads and doesn't opt in to letting AI providers train on your records. You can export the whole circle as a ZIP at any time.

Start with the report you're trying to understand

Add one document (the biopsy report, the staging scan, last week's labs) and read what it says in plain English before the next appointment. Your whole family can use KeptWell free today.
