Why families switch
When the records are for someone you're caring for
Here's what changes when several of you are keeping track of one person.
Built around the person you're caring for
Guava calls itself a personal health tracker. KeptWell starts from the patient and everyone helping them: one private circle, each person with their own login, as an admin or a member. There's no limit on how many join and nothing to pay. Guava's free plan can share records with family by email or link, and unlimited profile managers need the $8-a-month Premium plan.
Every record read and explained
A discharge summary, a CT report or a pathology result is mostly sentences, not numbers. KeptWell reads every page you add, whether it's a scan, a PDF or a photo of the paper, and writes back what it is, what was found and which medications changed, in plain English. The original stays attached, so anyone can check the summary against it.
What the doctor said, saved with the rest
Much of what's said at a visit doesn't make it into the written summary. Record the appointment in the iPhone or web app and KeptWell transcribes it, sorts out who said what and files it with the rest, so the sibling who couldn't come can catch up. On iPhone, the recording keeps going if the screen locks.
Answers that show where they came from
Each person in the circle gets a private chat that has read the whole record. Ask what changed since the last scan or when a medication was stopped, and the answer cites the document it came from, so you can open the source and check. Nobody else in the circle sees what you asked.
Other comparisons families have asked us about
KeptWell vs PicnicHealth
If you'd rather someone else gathered the records, PicnicHealth gathers them from your providers. Here's how it compares with KeptWell for a family.
KeptWell vs MyChart
If most of the records live in MyChart, here's how KeptWell works as the family's layer above the patient portal.

- Connect MyChart to KeptWell Labs, medications, diagnoses and visits import where the health system has turned KeptWell on.

A note from KeptWell
Keep every record in one place your whole family can read
KeptWell takes the scans, lab results, visit notes, and appointment recordings a family collects and turns them into one organized, searchable record. Upload a document and it's read, summarized in plain English, and filed where everyone in the care circle can find it. Ask a question and get an answer grounded in the actual records.
It's free to start, with no credit card. We never sell your data or show you ads.
Common questions
- Is Guava Health free?
- Guava has a free plan that syncs patient portal records and fitness devices, takes uploads and tracks symptoms, medications and more. Premium costs $8 a month or $78 a year and adds unlimited profile managers for families and caregivers, the Guava Assistant AI, automatic lab import from uploaded tests and an Emergency Card. KeptWell is free today, with every feature.
- How hard is it to switch from Guava Health to KeptWell?
- There's no importer, so switching means moving files. Guava lets you download a single report or list as a PDF and export what you logged as a CSV. In KeptWell, connect the patient's MyChart (where the health system has turned that on) or Apple Health, upload the PDFs and any paper you've kept, and the AI reads and sorts each one. Then invite the family.
- Can KeptWell track symptoms and sync my fitness tracker?
- Partly. KeptWell reads home readings from Apple Health on the patient's iPhone: blood pressure, weight, blood glucose, blood oxygen, temperature and resting heart rate. It doesn't connect to fitness devices directly and doesn't chart correlations. Symptoms and doses given go in the journal, which the circle can see unless an entry is marked private.
- Can I use Guava and KeptWell together?
- Yes. Someone tracking their own health day to day can keep Guava for symptoms, devices and trends, and the family can use KeptWell for the records: the reports, the labs, the medication changes and the questions for the next visit. The two don't need to be connected, and KeptWell is free, so it doesn't add a bill.
- Is KeptWell HIPAA-compliant?
- No. KeptWell does not currently offer a Business Associate Agreement or claim HIPAA compliance. It is built for families managing their own records. It encrypts data in transit and at rest, never sells family data, shows no ads and does not opt in to AI provider training. You can export the whole circle as a ZIP at any time.
