How the connection works

1. Step 01

   Find your health system

   Search for the hospital or clinic by name. KeptWell looks it up in Epic's public directory of connected organizations, which covers several hundred US health systems.

2. Step 02

   Sign in on the hospital's own page

   KeptWell hands you off to your health system's real sign-in screen. You enter your MyChart username and password there and approve the request. KeptWell never sees your password, and there is nothing for you to copy or paste.

3. Step 03

   The records come across

   Labs, vitals, medications, diagnoses, allergies, procedures, immunizations, and visit history land in your circle. So do the clinical documents in your chart, and those go through KeptWell's normal reading pipeline like anything you upload by hand.

4. Step 04

   It keeps itself current

   The connection refreshes in the background roughly every 12 hours. New results show up on their own, and re-syncing never creates a second copy of a record you already have.

What comes across

Structured data arrives as data, so it charts and sorts. Documents arrive as documents, and KeptWell reads them.

Lab results and vitals

Every value with its date and reference range, charted on a timeline so you can see a trend instead of a stack of one-off reports.

Medications

What was prescribed and when, with the changes visible as a history rather than a single current list.

Diagnoses and allergies

The active problem list and recorded allergies, in the words the chart actually uses.

Procedures and immunizations

What was done and when, including the shot record most families end up hunting for at the worst moment.

Visit history

Appointments and encounters, so the timeline has the shape of the year in it.

Clinical documents

Discharge summaries, visit summaries, consult and operative notes, imaging reports, and pathology reports. Each one gets read, summarized, and indexed the same way an uploaded PDF would be.

Today this connection covers Epic health systems in the United States. If your hospital runs something else, the Apple Health sync often reaches it, because Apple's Health Records network spans several portal vendors.

Questions about the MyChart import

Which hospitals can I connect?

US health systems that use Epic and appear in Epic's public directory of connected organizations, which runs to several hundred organizations. You search for yours by name inside KeptWell. There is one extra condition: each health system has to enable KeptWell on their end before the connection will work. If the portal opens to an error message instead of a sign-in screen, that system hasn't finished enabling KeptWell yet. Tell us which one and we'll start the request with them.

Does KeptWell see my MyChart password?

No. You sign in on your health system's own page, the same page you'd use to check a result. You approve the connection there, and KeptWell receives access to your records without ever receiving your username or password. You can revoke that access from KeptWell at any time.

What if my hospital shows an error instead of a login page?

That almost always means the health system hasn't enabled KeptWell yet, not that anything is broken on your end. Each organization approves connecting apps individually. Send us the name of the health system and we'll pursue it with them. In the meantime you can request your records the usual way and upload them, and KeptWell will read them just the same.

Can my family see the records I import?

Yes, and that's the point. Imported records land in your care circle, so everyone you've invited sees the same labs, the same medication changes, and the same visit summaries. One person does the connecting. Nobody else has to be handed a password or wait for a screenshot.

Does connecting change anything in my chart?

No. The connection is read-only. KeptWell can pull records out and can never write anything back, so nothing you or your family do in KeptWell reaches your medical record or your care team. Your doctors will not see notes, questions, or corrections you make here.

What if care is spread across more than one hospital?

Connect each of them. That's the situation this was built for. A person treated at a cancer center, followed by a primary care practice, and seen once in a different system's emergency room has three separate portals today. In KeptWell those become one timeline, in date order, with the source of every record still visible.

What happens if I disconnect?

You can disconnect at any time from your circle settings, and the connection stops pulling new records immediately. Records already imported stay in your circle unless you choose to remove them. You can also export everything in the circle as a ZIP whenever you want.
