The records already on your iPhone, shared with your family

A lot of people have already connected a hospital or two inside Apple's Health app and forgotten about it. Those records are real clinical data: labs, conditions, medications, notes. They just sit on one phone, where only one person can read them.

KeptWell's iPhone app reads what you allow and syncs it into your family's care circle. Apple has no caregiver side, so this is the part it can't do for you. The circle is what turns one phone's records into something the whole family can see.

Whose phone this has to be

The patient's. Apple's Health app only shares the data of the person whose iPhone it is, so this sync runs on the patient's device with the patient connected in the circle. If you're caring for someone else and they don't have an iPhone in hand, connect their hospital's patient portal instead. That path works from any device.

How the sync works

  1. Step 01

The patient installs KeptWell on their iPhone

This has to happen on the phone whose Health app holds the records. Apple's Health data belongs to the person holding the phone, and nothing reaches it from anywhere else.

  2. Step 02

    They choose what to share

Apple shows a permission screen with every switch turned off. Nothing moves until the patient turns on the categories they want KeptWell to read. They can change their mind later in Settings.

  3. Step 03

It syncs into the family circle

Once the records are in KeptWell, the circle does the sharing. Everyone the patient invited sees the same labs, the same conditions, and the same medication list. Apple has no way to do this on its own.

  4. Step 04

It updates when they open the app

Each time the patient opens KeptWell on that iPhone, new records sync across. Nothing is duplicated, and nothing is written back into Health.

What syncs

Whichever of these the patient turns on. Nothing is on by default.

Allergies and conditions
The recorded allergy list and the diagnoses on file, in the wording the health system used.
Lab results and vitals
Values with their dates, charted so a trend across years is visible instead of a folder of separate results.
Medications
What has been prescribed, merged into KeptWell's medication history so changes read as changes.
Procedures and immunizations
What was done and when, including the shot record.
Clinical notes
The documents Health carries from the health system, read and summarized like anything uploaded by hand.
Logged doses, on iOS 26 and later
If the patient tracks medications in Health, the doses they mark taken or skipped come across too and merge with KeptWell's medication tracking.

Why this reaches hospitals the portal connection can't

Apple spent years signing up health systems across several different portal vendors, and the network now covers thousands of US organizations. KeptWell's direct portal connection covers Epic health systems.

So if a hospital in your family's care isn't on Epic, Apple's network is often the way in. Many families end up using both: the portal connection for the health system doing the treating, Apple Health for the older records scattered across everyone else.

Read-only, and easy to end

KeptWell reads from Health and never writes to it. Nothing in your Health app changes, and nothing KeptWell holds goes back to Apple or to your care team.

Turn any category off whenever you want, or disconnect completely. Syncing stops immediately. Records already in your circle stay there unless you remove them.

The sync runs from the KeptWell app for iPhone and iPad. If you want a copy of what's in Health for your own files, here's how to export Apple Health data. And everything synced lands in the same personal health record as your uploads and imports.

Questions about the Apple Health sync

Can I sync my mom's records from my phone?
No, and this is the honest limit of the feature. Apple's Health app only ever shares the data of the person whose iPhone it is, and Apple offers no way for a caregiver to reach someone else's Health records from their own device. Two things do work. Your mom can install KeptWell on her iPhone, connect it to your family's circle, and turn on the categories she wants shared, after which you see everything without touching her phone again. Or you can connect her hospital's patient portal to the circle instead, which works from any device and does not need her phone at all.
Which health systems does this reach?
Apple's Health Records network covers thousands of US health systems across several different patient portal vendors. That's its real advantage. If a hospital isn't one of the Epic organizations KeptWell can connect to directly, there's a good chance Apple already reaches it, and the records flow into KeptWell from there.
Do I need an iPhone?
For this connection, yes. Health Records live on iPhone, so the sync runs from the KeptWell iOS app. Everyone else in the family can use KeptWell in a browser on anything. Only the patient's phone is doing the reading.
Does KeptWell change anything in my Health app?
No. The sync is read-only. KeptWell reads the categories you turned on and never writes, edits, or deletes anything in Health. Your Health app looks exactly the same after connecting as it did before.
How much do I have to share?
Only what you choose. Apple starts every switch in the off position and asks you category by category. You can share lab results and skip clinical notes, or turn on everything, or change the answer later in the Health app's privacy settings. KeptWell reads what you've allowed and nothing else.
How often does it sync?
Reliably every time the patient opens the KeptWell app on that iPhone. The app also asks iOS to deliver updates in the background, but iOS decides whether and when that happens, so we won't promise it. If a result matters today, opening the app takes a second and brings it across.
What if I disconnect?
You can turn KeptWell's Health access off in the Health app, or disconnect from inside KeptWell. Syncing stops right away. Records already imported stay in your circle unless you remove them, and you can export the whole circle as a ZIP at any point.

The records are already on the phone. Let the family see them.
