Most families use more than one. The point is that you stop being the courier between systems that don't talk to each other.

How it differs from your hospital's patient portal

A patient portal is the health system's copy of the chart, and it's the authoritative one. KeptWell isn't trying to replace it. It sits on top of the records from every portal a family deals with and does the things a single hospital's portal was never built to do.

How your records are held

These are commitments, not marketing copy. The security and data pages spell out the specifics, including every named subprocessor.

Encrypted, in transit and at rest

TLS 1.3 on every request. AES-256 on the database, applied at the field level for chat content, journal entries, transcripts, and patient names. Files sit behind signed URLs that expire after five minutes.

No ads, and nothing sold

We won't sell your data to advertisers, brokers, insurers, or pharma, in any form, ever. There are no ads in the app or in email, and no marketing tracking pixels on signed-in pages.

Not used to train AI models

KeptWell does not opt in to model training, and the AI providers we use do not train on API inputs or outputs by default. KeptWell does not currently offer a Business Associate Agreement or claim HIPAA compliance, and we'd rather say so plainly than imply otherwise.

Yours to take and yours to delete

Export the whole circle as a ZIP whenever you want, in one click. Delete any document, note, or message, or the entire account. Deletion clears active systems right away and backups within 30 days.

Common questions

What is a personal health record app?

It's an app where one person's medical records live in a single place, controlled by that person or their family rather than by a hospital. A patient portal is run by a health system and only shows records from that system. A personal health record app pulls records from every source into one history: multiple hospitals, outside labs, imaging centers, and paper you scanned yourself.

How is this different from MyChart?

A patient portal is the health system's copy of your chart, and it's the authoritative source for records from that one system. KeptWell sits on top of it. It imports those records, adds the ones from every other doctor, reads and summarizes what's inside, and shares the whole picture with the family in a care circle. Most families use both.

Can my whole family use it?

Yes. That's what a care circle is. The patient is at the center and you invite the people who need to know, with two roles: admins manage uploads and members, everyone else can view, comment, and chat. Your own notes and your own AI conversations stay private to you even inside a shared circle, and records in one circle are never visible from another.

What does it cost?

KeptWell is free today. No paid plans, no tiers, no fees. It won't be free forever, because protecting families' medical records costs real money, and we'd rather charge families who can pay than sell anything about the families who can't. When a price arrives it will be a fair named price with at least 60 days' notice, plus a donation-funded sponsored access program for anyone who needs it, with no income verification.

Does the AI actually read the documents, or just file them?

It reads them. Each document comes back with a title, a summary, and the findings that matter, and the numbers inside get pulled out as data so lab values chart over time and medication changes read as a history. It can be wrong, which is why every claim in chat cites the exact source page. The AI accuracy page lays out what it does well and where it doesn't.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes. KeptWell runs in a browser on any device, and there's an iPhone and iPad app for scanning a document in the parking lot, recording a visit, or asking a question on the drive home. The Apple Health sync runs from that app.

What happens to my records if I stop using KeptWell?

You take them. One click exports everything in the circle as a ZIP, documents and notes and timeline included. If you delete your account, your data leaves active systems immediately and backups within 30 days. There is no lock-in and nothing to cancel by phone.
